Mohammed Bin Rashid Library was established by law no. 14 in 2016 in line with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai, to develop a knowledge society in Dubai and the UAE. As one of the most ambitious cultural and intellectual initiatives in the Arab world, the library's design was inspired by the 'Rehal', the traditional wooden book rest.

The Mohammed Bin Rashid Library aims to spark a passion for knowledge throughout UAE society, especially the youth, in addition to the conservation and promotion of Arabic literature, culture, and heritage by supporting and promoting reading, research, creativity, and entrepreneurship. Therefore, the Library offers free access to a unique collection of books and other knowledge resources, in addition to providing high-quality information services and launching leading cultural events.

Along with the Information Centre, the Mohammed bin Rashid Library includes nine specialised libraries: Public Library, Young Adults Library, Children's Library, Atlas and Map Library, Media and Arts Library, Business Library, Emirates Library, Special Collection Library, and the Periodicals Library. Moreover, the library houses more than one million digital, audio, and paper books in 30 languages.

The Mohammed bin Rashid Library is considered the next generation of libraries locally, regionally, and globally due to using the latest global library technology and artificial intelligence. It includes an automated store, an electronic books retrieval system, and a laboratory for digitizing books.

The Library contains many distinguished services and facilities, including the Treasures of the Library exhibition, an indoor theatre and an outdoor amphitheater, study rooms, as well as the Garden of Languages, which hosts 60 columns containing dozens of quotes by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, translated into more than 170 languages, in addition to other facilities well-equipped for people of determination.
